Michigan Commercial Door Group, LLC. is a 24/7 full service door and dock equipment company, specializing in distribution, repair, service, testing and installation of all kinds of commercial, industrial, municipal and retail doors, hardware, loading docks and loading dock equipment.

Job Description:

Project Estimator will prepare accurate, timely and competitive pricing for various repair, service and/or sales of Industrial/Commercial door, dock and related equipment and hardware.


  • Ability to accurately estimate the cost of materials, labor, equipment, hardware and subcontractors (if needed); ensuring all areas of an estimate are covered.
  • Ability to read blue prints and bid specifications for new construction projects.
  • Obtain bids from vendors and subcontractors (when needed) by specifying materials and application.
  • Assess jobsite to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Evaluate vendors, subcontractors and general contractors for pricing and selection.
  • Communicate effectively with contractors, vendors, sales team, technicians and service department.
  • Create and maintain a relevant database of subcontractors to utilize for projects when needed.
  • Confer with Service Department for purposes such as planning, organizing and scheduling work.
  • Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project.
  • Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
  • Adhere to cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
  • Continually grow and develop skills and product knowledge.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • Minimum (3) years’ experience working as an Estimator/Project Manager within the Commercial Door & Hardware Industry.
  • Ability to read architectural drawings and interpret job and produce specifications.
  • Strong working knowledge of Overhead, pedestrian, and automatic doors as well as loading docks and loading dock equipment.
  • Minimum (2) years’ purchasing experience with excellent negotiating skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Skilled in prioritizing workloads as is necessary due to changes in demands, deadlines, and lead times.
  • Superior customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Work on ladders for the purpose of thoroughly evaluating jobs.
